After joining various work-from-home remote working websites and remote work groups on platforms like Facebook, I encountered numerous posts promising easy ways to earn thousands per month with minimal effort. These were all clear scams. While there are genuine job postings, it’s advisable to exercise caution unless you’re familiar with the company or individual advertising the position.
Not all remote companies advertise on these platforms. By solely relying on job sites, you may miss out on hidden opportunities that are never publicly listed.
When companies seek new hires, they often turn to their immediate network first, relying on people they know and trust. This is known as the hidden job market.
The best work-from-home opportunities are often filled before they even appear on job sites.
Nine out of every ten job seekers now consider hybrid working as essential as financial benefits.
This is when evaluating new employment opportunities, according to a recent study. Commissioned by IWG, the world’s largest provider of flexible office and workspace solutions. The research surveyed 2,000 office workers to gain insights into the factors influencing their job choices.
The findings reveal that 88% of respondents rank hybrid working alongside traditional financial benefits.
Such as health insurance and group income protection, placing it ahead of other perks like life insurance, unlimited holiday, and extended parental leave. This shift in priorities comes amidst significant changes in the UK job market post-pandemic, with record-high resignation rates and job vacancies.
Indeed, the world’s largest job site, also reports a substantial increase in searches related to hybrid and remote work options. Searches for “hybrid” increased by a staggering 6,531% year-on-year, making it one of the fastest-growing terms on the platform. Additionally, searches for remote work rose by 666%, indicating a growing preference among job seekers for flexibility and proximity to their local communities.
Hybrid working is now emerging as a critical consideration for job seekers.
Alongside traditional factors like salary and holiday entitlements. Office workers rank hybrid working as more important than company culture, equity, potential for career advancement, and even the prospect of working with new colleagues. Nearly half of respondents (49%) stated they would immediately dismiss job opportunities that do not offer hybrid working arrangements.
Furthermore, employees cite numerous benefits of hybrid working, including improved work-life balance, enhanced mental health and wellbeing, reduced commuting stress, and increased productivity. Bruce Daisley, former EMEA Vice-President of Twitter and author of “The Joy of Work,” emphasizes the ongoing transformation in work culture and the need for companies to adapt accordingly.
The rise of hybrid working has also led to increased demand for suburban and rural office spaces, as workers seek to avoid long commutes and embrace flexible working arrangements closer to home. This trend is reflected in the significant growth of IWG’s rural and suburban office spaces, with locations such as Bromsgrove, Beaconsfield, and Tewkesbury experiencing notable increases in demand.
Mark Dixon, CEO of IWG, highlights the shift in employee expectations, emphasizing that salary alone is no longer the primary consideration for job seekers. Employers who fail to offer hybrid working risk losing top talent, as workers increasingly prioritize flexibility and work-life balance. Dixon also underscores the financial and environmental benefits of hybrid working for businesses, with potential cost savings and reduced carbon footprints.
The growing demand for hybrid work solutions is evident in the increasing number of employees utilizing IWG’s network of flexible workspaces across the UK. With over two million new customers added in 2021 alone, IWG continues to meet the evolving needs of the modern workforce in a rapidly changing employment landscape.
