Travel Tips – short stay in Mallorca island getaway and where to stay!

Our first short stay in Mallorca was a few years ago and we had a really nice time exploring and relaxing in the sun.

Every year in November, Laura and I book our winter island getaway. We book a 4 or 5 night stay for March to celebrate my birthday.

Travel tips Mallorca Spain

Mallorca (Majorca) is one of Spain’s Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean. It’s known for beach resorts, sheltered coves, limestone mountains and Roman and Moorish remains. Capital Palma has nightlife, the Moorish Almudaina royal palace and 13th-century Santa María Cathedral. Stone-built villages include Pollença, with its art galleries and music festival, and hillside Fornalutx, surrounded by citrus plantations. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallorca

Where to stay in Mallorca and without a car?

Day 1. Fri – Palma, short stay in Mallorca

We usually, hire a car and spend one night in the capital depending what time we arrive at the airport. We decided to spend our stay in the north near to Port de Pollença. For this short stay in Mallorca we stayed in Palma de Mallorca for one night to see the town and beaches.

Day 2. Sat – bus journey to Port de Pollenca

The next morning we headed to the Palma main bus terminal and took the bus from Estació Intermodal (301) to Port de Pollença. Approximately, a one hour and twenty minute bus trip to the north of the island.

We checked into our booking.com apartment and had a lovely stay there. We recommend you have a look at Apartamentos Falcó, Carrer del Falcó, 21, 07470 Puerto Pollenca. We paid about 300 for the 4 nights, 75 per night.

We spent the afternoon visiting the Port de Pollença with its beautiful bay, beaches and promenade walks.

Day 3. Sun – Morning hike to Cala Sant Vicenç

Friends recommended the short 5 km hike to Cala Sant Vicenç, a small resort town. So we could explore the beautiful beaches of Cala Carbo, Cala Molins, Cala Cara and Cala Barques.

Head to where the hike to the Coll de Siller begins. We headed to Villa Bernat (nice place to stay) located at Can Bernat Poligono 9, 07460.

When you see the sign Siller, continue straight until you turn left and start your ascent to the top of the Coll de Siller. You will enjoy pleasant views looking down to the Bay of Pollenca. The easy walk down to the town of Cala Sant Vicenc, is on a good concrete path. You will have amazing views down to the town and the aqua blue sea and bays of Cala Carbo and Cala Molins.

Day 4. Mon – Morning hike to Puig de Maria and its monastery

The Puig de Maria overlooks the town of Pollenca in the north-east of the island of Mallorca. The hill is a prominent feature in the landscape of the area and its monastery, the ‘Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig’ peeks out from the treetops watching over the town below and coaxing any curious traveller to make the ascent. Head to the starting point of this 2 km hike walking about 45 mins to an hour https://goo.gl/maps/YegooQND2FsEX9B97

We really enjoyed this hike and the views are stunning. The monastery, ‘Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Puig’ is rich in history dating back to the 15th century. And its well worth spending an hour to visit and have lunch with the goats and chickens. After the hike back down, we walked into the town of Pollenca and enjoyed a nice stroll and drinks before dinner.
