Kiwis in Spain started on Facebook back in 2014 by Muir!
Our biggest Kiwi gathering so far took place in May 2022 at The Rugby Match of the Decade, when Spain faced the Classic All Blacks in Madrid. Kent Routen and his wife Laura brought together more than 50 Kiwis from across Spain, and we enjoyed an unforgettable weekend immersed in the rugby atmosphere.
We were also very fortunate to have the incredible Paul and Mirella, co-founders of Kiwihouse, whose efforts have made so many sporting events possible and successful. Join many Kiwis with our 2,000+ strong group of Kiwis in Spain here https://www.facebook.com/groups/kiwisinspain

On 21 May 2022, THE MATCH was held in Madrid—a unique event described by the press as a great celebration of Spanish rugby and the beginning of a new era for the sport. Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the event was rescheduled twice, but Kiwihouse remained committed to organising and delivering a world-class sporting spectacle. The goal was clear: to promote Spanish rugby and show unwavering support for the players of the national team. Ultimately, 40,000 fans filled the Wanda Metropolitano to cheer on Los Leones and enjoy the much-anticipated game against the Classic All Blacks.
Rain and lightning arrived just as the haka began, adding a dramatic and almost magical atmosphere to a match that will be remembered as a turning point in the history of rugby in Spain. The game was played in exhibition format, with extended rosters and unlimited substitutions, which allowed for high-quality play at varying tempos and ended with a victory for the New Zealanders. Los Leones, however, showcased some of their finest rugby, once again proving on the pitch the place they rightfully deserve.
In the week leading up to the match, a series of events and activities were held to promote rugby, with the city of Madrid—named World Capital of Sport 2022—taking a central role in the celebrations.
